With dear old Dad Jack along for the ride, this itinerary saw us plunge south from Berlin to the Black Forest before following the German Alpine Road eastwards to Salzburg and then Vienna.
With three of us on board and a combination of autobahns and mountain touring to look forward to I decided to go for a solid German tourer in the form of a Mercedes Benz C-Class.
Highlight of the German leg of the trip was a Black Forest ramble up, over and around the Mooskopf, following the Gengenbach–Alpirsbach Trail.
From Vienna we chased the sun south via Rhodes to the island of Symi, a jewel which lies in the Dodecanese just off the Turkish coast. We were inspired to this trip watching Rick Stein and found ourselves a glorious villa overlooking the harbour.
We returned home via Athens.
