Milan to London loop (2013)
Fond memories abound for this trip, not least because it was our honeymoon. I think I’d decided on a sporty little Alfa Romeo for in honour of my loved and missed Alfetta GTV6. Upon mentioning that it was our honeymoon however, the team at the Avis desk in Milan airport decided a rag top would be more appropriate and shuffled things to upgrade us gratis.
The itinerary made a meandering route through Piedmont, the Cote d’Azur and Provence before heading north for a friend’s wedding outside London.
Highlight of the trip were the summertime meadows of the Valle d’Aosta, where roads were silky ribbons and we felt like we had the Alps to ourselves on long mountain rambles.
The BMW 320d convertible leans towards grand touring and driving through Provence lavender fields at sunset with the top down stays with me to this day.
