An election observed from the capital
Being in Washington, D.C., during a presidential election was an experience unlike any other. As Han and I traveled across the United States leading up to this point, we followed the election coverage closely, immersing ourselves in current events while simultaneously tracing the history of the republic and the War of Independence along the way. From Boston to Philadelphia and beyond, we explored the places that shaped the nation’s founding, making our arrival in Washington feel like the culmination of a journey through American history.

In D.C., the highlight was undoubtedly visiting the museums of the Smithsonian Institution. Each museum offered a fascinating lens into different facets of American achievement and culture. The National Museum of American History showcased artifacts that told the story of the country’s growth and innovation, while the National Museum of Natural History left us in awe with its dazzling gems and prehistoric fossils.

Our favourite, however, was the National Air and Space Museum. From the Wright brothers’ first flyer to the Space Shuttle and Apollo 11 command module, every exhibit celebrated human ingenuity and the drive to explore. It was impossible to stand beneath these iconic artifacts without marveling at the ambition and progress that have defined America.
