Sturt National Park & Strzelecki Desert (2011)

Hannah and I are constantly getting out and about. I’ve included this itinerary on globalgregors.com as it’s one of our first big wilderness road trips, covering 3,000 kms over just 4 nights.

At one stage in the Strzelecki, where there is essentially one way in and one out, we calculated that we were likely to be at least 50kms from the nearest person. If this is correct, to this day it’s probably the most isolated place we’ve reached. Even in the Occidental Sahara or Mongolian Gobi a local will appear just when you feel that you’re the last people on Earth.

The borders of Queensland, New South Wales and South Australia come together at a place called Cameron Corner, and in the weeks before our trip the area had been drenched by unseasonal rains and flooding. What would normally be a parched landscape was instead a savannah bursting with life.

Wheels for this trip were our much-missed Jeep JK Wrangler.
